3 Ingredient Prune Cookies for Bone Health

Prunes

Prunes, which are dried plums, are loaded with bone building nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, vitamin K, and vitamin A. In fact, research has shown that 5 or 6 medium-sized prunes per day can help reverse and prevent bone loss!

Oats

If that isn't enough reason to make these delicious cookies, they are also made with nutrient dense oats. Oats are a great source of manganese which helps the body absorb calcium to create bones, collagen, and connective tissue. Low manganese levels have been correlated with bone malformation and increased fracture rates. Oats also provide other bone building nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc.

Walnuts

Additionally, these cookies include walnuts for the healthy fat and fiber they provide. Walnuts have a substantial amount of the healthy omega-3 fat alpha-lipoic acid (ALA). ALA consumption has been linked in one study to decreased bone loss over time.

These bone boosting cookies are also vegan and gluten free.

Ingredients

28 organic pitted dried prunes
2 tablespoons hot filtered water
1 cup organic gluten-free rolled oats
1/4  cup organic chopped walnuts

Instructions

1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

2) Put 16 prunes and hot water in a food processor and pulse until smooth.

3) Add in oats and walnuts and continue to pulse until a sticky dough forms.

4) Roll the dough into 12 balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

5) Lightly press a whole prune in to the center of each ball to form a cookie shape.

6) Bake the cookies for 15 minutes, or until lightly browned and a fork comes out clean.

7) Immediately after removing from the oven, tap each of them down with a glass to form a cookie shape and let cool.
